Budgeting

A budget that pays itself

Most budgets fail on the day you have to follow them. With SpenDrip, each line of your budget becomes a scheduled payment, so the money goes where you planned on the day you planned, without you deciding again every time.

Write the budget once, as drips

How to create a budget that sticks: list what each month must cover, give each item an amount and a day, then make each one a scheduled payment. An automatic budget moves the money on those days, so each part of your pay goes to its job before you can spend it on something else.

Here is a ₦400,000 salary, paid on the 25th, turned into drips:

Budget lineDripA month
👵🏾 Mum₦50,000 on the 26th (priority 1)₦50,000
🍲 Upkeep₦30,000 every Saturday to whoever runs the house₦120,000
🏠 Rent money₦60,000 on the 26th to your other account₦60,000
🙋🏾 Your spending allowance₦25,000 every Monday to your everyday account₦100,000
⛽ Fuel₦15,000 every Friday₦60,000

What's left after the drips is yours to keep or spend. Fees are extra and shown before each plan starts; see the fee calculator.

Pay yourself an allowance

The simplest way to stop a salary from disappearing in the first week: move it in weekly drips to the account you spend from. When this week's allowance is gone, you know to slow down, and next Monday's arrives on its own.

Send ₦25,000 for 🙋🏾 My week to me every Monday at 7:00 AM.

Protect the lines that matter

Rank up to three drips as priorities. SpenDrip keeps back what they still need for the rest of the month, so if money runs short, your allowance and fuel wait, not Mum or the rent.

Know your month before it starts

  • On the 1st you get an email with everything going out that month, fees included, and the exact amount to add if your balance won't cover it.
  • A day ahead, if a drip due tomorrow can't be covered, you get a note while there's still time to top up.
  • Change the budget any time: edit an amount, pause a line, or skip one payment.

Questions people ask

Is SpenDrip a savings app?

No. SpenDrip holds money only to send it on schedule; it doesn't pay interest. To set money aside, you can drip it to another account of your own.

Can I budget my salary automatically?

Yes. Top up after payday and turn each budget line into a scheduled transfer: to family, to whoever runs the house, or to your own accounts.

What if I can't cover the whole budget one month?

Your priorities are covered first. Other drips wait, and you get a note with the exact amount to top up.
